Jadakiss - Letter To BIG

I have to be perfectly honest, when I first heard about this song, I imagined it to be an incredible song. Man, was I disappointed. Don't get me wrong, the song is decent, but Jada appears to have some sort of agenda with this track - rather than taking this track beyond the level of expectancy. I mean throwing a little jab at 50 in the middle of a tribute doesn't seem quite right to me. From the supposed self-proclaimed kings statements to the never-ending boasting of himself, the overall message I received from this track is that he is claiming to be the King of NY - what else is new. He did bring up resolved issues with people that both BIG and Kiss had a past with, e.g. Kim and Puff. The emotion is what saved the song, in my opinion. Talking about BIG's kids, and how they have grown was the highlight by far - I suppose I was expecting more of this, not just how his kids have grown, but maybe how the old Bad Boy Fam has grown. All in all, the song is mediocre, and is far from a "One Love."

If you haven't heard it yet, hear you go:

Nas - Queens Get The Money (Music Video)

WOW. I cannot stress how poignant this music video is. Not only does the lyrical content touch on subject unprecedented but the video is remarkable. The thematic, unadulterated blackness and Islamic undertones make this a very special video and an excellent, relevant work of art. Pure. Nas.

Kid Cudi Freestyle on some Too Short Shit

Saigon Speaking Truth To Hip-Hop

What more can I say?

More Stones

Fucking Fire! ! !

Gems 1st single off his new shit

Lupe ft. Gemstones - Boss Playa

Whats interesting about Lupe and this track is that it illustrates a shift in Lupe's work. Ever since the release of the dark, thematic "Lupe Fiasco Presents: The Cool", dude has offered his listeners more off a common man's touch in his lyrics. And in my opinion, thats all dude needed to take him to access a wider Hip-Hop audience and ascend to the next level.

There seemed to always be something with each album that turned off the average hip-hopper: the skateboader image of his first single and the elitist, intricate and super lyrical sophmore album. Whats he has done so far was definitely needed in the game but its time for Lupe to bridge back-pack music with the trap-hop music like Nas does.

On another note, Gemstone does his thing on this track. This is off his mixtape "Coast to coast" on which Lupe appeared. Look out for Gemstones and other "1st & 15th" artist.

Wale + Travis Barker in the studio

Freeway On The Heavy Grind

Free has come a long way: Legendary rap battle with fellow Philly rapper Cassidy, the dismantle of State Property (the Philly Wu-Tang for many of us), surviving the Jay and Dame break-up, the relatively lukewarm buzz created by his sophomore album *Free at Last*. . .

And none of that has stopped the kid.

Since then, dude has been on his grind hard. And as of late, the emcee will dish out a continualy flow of music--Month of Madness. The rapper is in the booth daily and you can expect a song a day from the rap factory known as the Philadelphia Freeway.

Respect the grind.

We may be halfway into the "Month of Madness" by now but that leaves you 15 days of 15 tracks of Freeway that you can hear all over the net. . .A recession will drive a man to do unimanginable things like this. All we can do as listners is sit back, keep a look out and lend an ear for the Hip-Hop game as it unfolds.

Stay Hip-Hop,

Lupe Fiasco: Fan Art

Kanye On SNL Tonight!!!!

Tonight Kanye West will perform singles "Heartless" and "Love Lockdown" LIVE on SNL. It will air 11:30 Eastern on NBC.

The Nototrious B.I.G. Movie - 01.16.08

It'll be interesting to see how they try to portray dude. Im looking to contrast this flick with the introspective Tupac Ressurection. This flick--if done right--will be so dope. Either way you rock, this movie is a good look. I know emcees all over will be taking both notes and theater seats. . .

Here is the extended trailer

In addition, below is an interview w/ legendary producer D-Dot about Big and the creation of the classic track Hypnotize.

Look for dude in '09 too.

Drake - Say Whats Real (Prod. By Kanye)

This dude is gonna pop off in '09 if there is any justice in this world whatsoever. If not, I'll Spaz out...simple and plain.

Ch-Check it. Drake (aka Drizzy) Killing this 'Ye beat (808'S).

Can you say versatility?

Keyshia Cole - Oh Oh Yeah Yea ft. Nas

Classic Track: A Must-Listen

Furthermore, Nas's verse is very *808's & Heartbreak* influenced if you ask me. (And I find that to be a great thing. No dis!). It just the entire concept of exploring the mans' man perspective of a relationship is very relevant (and needed) in the game right now. In no way is Nasir jockin nobody's swag, but he IS down with the kanYeness if noone else is. . .God's Son joined 'Ye late in his tour consisting of 808's.

I <3 this game.

Stay Hip-Hop,

Wale:1% Vote to Own '09?!?!?! pt.1

Wale's lyrical skill as of....circa September 08

Joe Budden: His Spin On The Rap Game

Shouts to Joe Beezy! Let dude get his shine in '09 and lets see what happens...And this is Jamal speaking--not even Nishan, haha.

Could he run '09 though??? we still gotta see. Either way, an affiliation with 50 and G-unit will get a up-comer nowhere right now--not even in promo. Internet > 50's promo dollars (but thats just me).

Vote on that poll upwards & to ya right. Tell ya friends to vote too...(after Barrack we the next most important vote haha).

NASA - Gifted ft. Kanye, Santogold, Lykke Li

Crazy Sound//New Age//New Direction!!!!

Kanye Interview W/ Q Deezy (Very Good)

Most people in many places have a word or two about what Kanye is doing--myself included. Despite my 'Ye advocacy I will reserve judgement (for now) and bring you this: an interview. It is revealing of the inner-chambers of Kanye's mind. Enjoy.

IS BRITNEY TALKING ABOUT WEEZY?!

In Britney Spear's latest single, Womanizer, it appears that she is taking shots at Lil' Wayne! That's right, taking shots at Lil' Wayne! Now this simply an observation I made, and could be a false assumption, but the verse fits.

And the verse goes:

Daddy-O
You got the swagger of a champion
Too bad for you
You just can't find the right companion
I guess when you have one too many
Makes it hard, it could be easy
Who you are
That's just who you are, baby
Lollipop
Must mistake me, you're the sucker
To think that I
Would be a victim, not another

Is she calling Lil' Wayne a womanizer?! Is this in spite of what Weezy said on the "White Girl Remix" even though he was clearly referring to cocaine? Or is there something going on behind the scenes that we have no knowledge about?

Stay posted, we'll keep you updated!

Nishan's 2009 Prediction

What's up all,

Well, if you have been listening to the show, you should already be able to guess who my number one prediction is. I will also have an explanation as to why I think the following artists will hold it down for the year 2009. Here it goes:

1. Joe Budden
2. Eminem
3. Lil' Wayne
4. Outkast
5. Cory Gunz

Honorable mention:

Juelz Santana

Now, as Jamal stated, this obviously isn't my top favorite rappers, but it is simply my prediction. Here's my explanation as to why I chose these 5 artists as oppose to anybody else.

Number 1, Joe Budden - aside from him being my favorite post-03 artist, he is finally given the chance to hit the mainstream again. With having only 1 mainstream album and 2 street album's out to date, he has been out of the light for some time now. But, from mid-July of 2008, he has caused a series of events that generated a good amount of buzz in the industry. The ode to hip hop, Who, I believe shook up the game, and had an incredible amount of feedback from the artists mentioned in the song. The Halfway House album = a great piece of work and leads in perfectly into his upcoming album Padded Room. Padded Room's first single just released, and it is BANANAS. This is the first mainstream song he has created since Pump It Up and features The Game! For those that do not realize the significance of this, long story short, Joe Budden was the first artist to attack G-Unit, and had a long lasting beef with The Game. Lastly, Joe Budden, along with Royce Da 5'9, Crooked I, and Joell Ortiz, has created the CRAZIEST hip hop group since Wu Tang. All of them are lyracists, and have great flow. If they continue doing what they do, garanteed - they will revolutionize the game.

I'll make the rest short.

Number 2, Eminem - crazy buzz, and has a long anticipated album releasing early next year (The Relapse).

Number 3, Lil' Wayne - love him or hate him, respect this man's grind. He already has a line up of releases planned for 09, such as the T-Wayne album, Tha Carter 3 Rebirth, another 30 song mixtape, the long anticipated I Can't Feel My Face album, and so on.

Number 4, Outkast - BIG THINGS PLANNED FOR OUTKAST!! Both are coming out with a solo album in 09. Big Boi's album, Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, is set to come out in February, and Andre's unnamed solo album follows it up later on in the year.

Number 5, Cory Gunz - Everywhere you look Gunz is there, as of late. After the huge hype off his A Milli verse, he has been dropping his lyrical death bombs any and every place he gets the chance. He also outshined EVERYBODY that spit on The Cipher on the BET Awards. I am predicting that he will get resigned or find a great deal in 09, and he will take the W for most of 09, and 2010 will be his official year.

*By the way Juelz just got signed to Def Jam and got out of the big mess over with Dipset. He has a mixtape and album planned for 09, and if he can create a buzz similar to the amount of his last album, he will be able to hold his own.

We'll see if I'm right or not haha. Just a prediction.
It's been real, be easy people!

Jamal's list:
1.Kanye West
2.Andre 3000
3.Lil Wayne
4.Clipse
5.Wale
6.Lupe Fiasco
7.Jadakiss
8.Drake
9.Jay Z
10.Common

6 for Honorable Mention
*Freeway
*Slaughterhouse (Joe Budden, Crooked I, Joel Ortiz, Royce Da 5'9)
*Jay Electronica
* Terminology
*Cool Kids
*Bun B

p.s. It seems to me the people who i believe will run the game next year are also some of my favorite emcees. Hip-Hop lives on??? Im excited to see if it makes it through to another year.

*EDIT*

p.s. that list is my prediction for who will own hip-hop in '09 (if there is any justice in the world). that is not my top 10 favorite rappers. & The Roots need to be on that list but they'll be a house band for a new show on late nite tv so they might not drop anything :-(

Start of a new year = The beginning of a new reign!

Hello All,

We all know that with the coming of a new year, in the Hip Hop World, all hell may break loose. Everything from unexpected beefs to having today's forefronts becoming yesterday's news, is more than expected. The mystery that we, Fresh Cuts Radio, are trying to figure out is, who will be considered the representative of the upcoming year of 2009. Because we figure you, the reader, are just as curious as we are, we want to hear from you! Start listing potential contenders for this position, and it's more than alright to list more than one. After we have enough candidates, we will conduct a poll to determine who our prime suspect is. Let's see who's predictions are correct!

PEACE!
