Slaughterhouse!!!!...

FreshCuts Rated 2 Run '09 way the fuck back in december (notice the poll to the right....Joe Budden denotes slaughterhouse)

These dudes may have been held back by the aliment of contemporary hip-hop, but they said fuck that!

this is a party record but from real lyricist. Do your due dilligence: check out the bizarre diplay of wordplay on "cuckoo", dig the traditional boom-bap sound on "warriors". it goes on; but it starts here.

Kid CuDi on CuDi:::::

"I REPRESENT EVERYTHING THAT IS GOOD AND DECENT IN THE WORLD, IAM THE VOICE OF A WHOLE NEW GENERATION OF YOUTH WHO WANT TO JUST BE WHO THEY ARE. YOUNGINS WHO WANT TO ACHIEVE GREAT THINGS, AND WHO ARE MISUNDERSTOOD. KIDS WITH DREAMS. KIDS WHO THE LAST THING THEY WANNA DO IS HARM ANOTHER HUMAN BEING BUT AT THE SAME TIME STAND UP FOR WHAT THEY BELIEVE IN PICKIN AND CHOOSIN THEIR BATTLES. I BRING HOPE TO THE UNDERDOGS AND FRUSTRATION TO THE HATERS. IAM A MESSENGER FROM GOD, HE WANTS ME TO SACRIFICE MYSELF AND PUT MY ISSUES OUT THERE SO OTHERS CAN LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES AND IGNORANCE. AT THE END OF THE DAY THERE IS ONLY FAITH, AND IM THE NEW POSTER BOY FOR CHANGE, POSITIVE ENERGY, PEACE AND LOVE. IAM NOT A PERFECT MAN, HOWEVER MY MISSION IS TO BETTER MYSELF THROUGH SONG, ULTIMATELY FINDING INNER PEACE AND WALKING A MORE POSITIVE PATH."

Joell Ortiz - Covers the Classics

If there's anyone in the game today that can get a pass with lyrically ripping 32 Hip Hop classics, while obviously paying homage to the original artists, it's got to be Mr. Ortiz. Being an avid listener of Joell Ortiz, it is easy to see that his roots hail from the old school New York MC era, so covering the (mostly) New York Hip Hop classics are right down his alley.

Overall it's a great listen. I recommend playing the originals back-to-back with Joell's versions - it's entertaining to see how Joell tries to fit into each of the artists' flow.

Here's the tracklisting:

01. Intro
02. Rappers Delight (feat. DJ Enuff)
03. Know The BK Ledge
04. Somethin for Hot 97 (feat. DJ Camilo)
05. Strictly the Bizness

07. Industry Enemy #1
08. Brooklyn Children’s Story

15. Just To Get A Check
16. Mass Appeal
17. Act Like They Don’t Know
18. The Whut (Animal Shit)
19. BK Get Money

DREAM-HATER
(not a song u'd expect)

Lesson #33::Make Matters Small

This is something I have found to be especially true as the infamous finals week beats me into restless, stressful chaos lol. enjoy

"Break everything into pieces, and only handle one at a time.
Most of what passes for intelligence in this world isn't intelligence at all. It's compartmentalization, the process of making things small. Perception's reality in the average organization, and a man who's rarely or never in error is always perceived to be smart. If you think in big pictures, it's easy to make mistakes - you're dealing with a lot of moving parts. But if you break down every issue you're debating into little pieces, each of which you can opine on discretely with no risk of being wrong, you'll look like a man with brains. Ever wonder why the people with the fanciest degrees speak simply and deal with small steps in a project rather than tackling it all once or discussing it conceptually? They got those fancy degrees because they were expert students, and expert students learn early - probably from essay exams - that you can be dumb as a brick on the big picture and practical application of knowledge but still get an "A-" if you can analyze a dozen or so finite pieces of an issue individually in a simple, confident fashion. Some would say this is a variation on the old advice, "K.I.S.S." Right acronym, but they're one word off. If you don't have the balls for decisions, and most of us don't, the rule is "Keep It Small, Stupid." Win the little battles on the narrow fields you define and leave the serious thinking for the seriously intelligent people".

Old School Cut Of The Week::Grandmaster Flash::Rated Fresh

Arguably one of the best Hip-Hop songs ever written. Its one of the first dongs with lyrical content, and one of the 1st to depict urban decay. (plus check out the gear they rocked live! lol) The video is from 1983...There was Disco. Then there was this!

Kido Getting interviewed by The.LifeFiles

Its obvious dude is making a point to stay on his humble. Good stuff tho, we could use a lil of that in an artist nowadays.

On another note, in a recent convo with Sapphire I was asked if there could be another genre to emerge after Hip-Hop. The point was made that it would have to have a poignant cultural backdrop like people who were too poor or young to get into Discotheques like Studio 54 and *5 Percenters* were for Hip-Hop (do your homework if you dont know this) . . .

My answer was artists like CuDi, Drake. They represent the Godfathers of another sub genre at the least. It will be personable music that include vulnerability, swagger, and women in a way unseen before. I feel like Weezy and Yeezy are like the KRS-Ones with the auto-tuned, emotion-filled melodic rap if you will. CuDi and Drizzy are the next level, like the Pac and Big of the new shit.

Either way, its dope. And heres an chillin ass interview with the Cudder himself. . . . .

Taz Arnold On Ti$a Vision - Mission Statement (very Good)

This is one of the flyest (the flyest in my opinion) most avant garde individuals of our time. He has been in the game for a minute, has done work for MCM (who rivaled LV for luggage in the 80's), and is now spearheading his own movement--Ti$a Vision.

Check it.

Kanye Performance on VH1 StoryTellers

Hipsters, Hip-Hop Heads, and lames alike--feast on this performance of New and old Kanye material.

Before you watch this (or ignore it b/c its 808's material) i'd like to share a realization of mine that is in 'Ye's defense. 808's is more or less like a concept album. In the sense that Lupe's The Cool is a conceptual expansion on the track "He Say She Say" of the 1st album, *808s* is an expansion on "Flashing Lights".

*808's* continues the sounds of the music with no/minimal samples and big bass, and lyrically with tragic, personal subject matter. I admit: it may be so personally that it is awkward for the listener too. But it is art nonetheless.
